01 When does Cursor's allowance reset?
Monthly on your billing date — not the first of the calendar month. So everyone's reset day differs; you can see yours under Settings → Usage.
02 Why does my allowance drain so fast?
Cursor runs two pools: first-party models (Composer, Grok) are generous, while third-party models (Claude, GPT, Gemini) bill at API rates. For most people the third-party pool empties first — and pricier frontier models drain it faster.
03 How much third-party allowance does each tier include?
Hobby gets $0, Pro ($20/mo) gets $20, Pro+ ($60/mo) gets $70, Ultra ($200/mo) gets $400. Teams is $40 per standard seat and $120 per Premium seat. Note this is a dollar allowance converted at API rates, not a request count.
04 What happens when the pool runs out?
You are either rate limited, or you opt into usage-based pricing so overflow continues at API rates. Since June 2026 admins can also set dollar thresholds for spend alerts routed to Slack or email.
05 What was the 2025 pricing controversy?
In June 2025 Cursor replaced Pro's "500 fast requests per month" with a $20 usage pool billed at API rates — roughly 225 requests with Claude Opus. Poor communication plus unexpected charges caused a backlash; Cursor apologised publicly on 4 July and refunded surprise charges incurred between 16 June and 4 July.
