REGULAR 2026-09-17 2026-09-17

This afternoon, we'll issue a Grok Bot usage reset to all existing users and one free month of Grok Bot ($200 in value) for all new users who are active in the livestream chat. — announced by xAI via email to Grok Bot users on the final day of Grok Bot Galaxy (quoted verbatim in the linked post); @bot did not post it on X.

Demand surged after the Grok 4.6 release and many users hit the cap quickly. As an emergency measure xAI issued one-off reset vouchers: redeem one under Settings → Usage to zero out your entire weekly pool once. They don't stack, one per account, and they expire on 12 September.

xAI open-sources Grok Build under Apache 2.0 (xai-org/grok-build, almost entirely Rust, targeting Grok 4.5) and resets quotas on every account at the same time. Background: on 10 July a security researcher disclosed that early versions of the CLI uploaded entire Git repositories — commit history and secrets in .env included — to a Google Cloud Storage bucket, and the privacy switch did not stop it. If you ran the CLI in a repo containing secrets before 13 July, treat those credentials as leaked and rotate them.

POLICY 2026-06-01 2026-06-01

xAI drops the per-message daily cap in favour of a single compute-based weekly pool shared across Chat, Imagine, Voice, Build and the API. The old 2-hour prompt cap goes away at the same time. From this change on, xAI no longer publishes concrete numbers for any tier — Settings → Usage shows only a percentage.

// ERRORS

// FAQ

01 When does my Grok allowance reset?

Paid plans share one weekly compute pool that resets on a fixed schedule assigned to your account. You can see the exact time under Settings → Usage — xAI publishes no universal reset time, and it differs per account.

02 Why can't I find a "messages per day" number?

Since 12 October 2026, The X Subscription shares a weekly usage pool across Cursor and Grok. Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100 and Ultra $200 per month provide base, 4×, 15× and 50× Plus usage.

03 Is the weekly pool shared across products?

Since 12 October 2026, The X Subscription shares a weekly usage pool across Cursor and Grok. Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100 and Ultra $200 per month provide base, 4×, 15× and 50× Plus usage.

04 Grok Build is open source — is it still limited?

On 15 July 2026 xAI open-sourced Grok Build (a terminal coding agent written in Rust) under Apache 2.0. Open code does not mean free inference — as long as you call xAI models, it still draws from your weekly compute pool.

05 What is the "Reset available" credit?

A one-time reset credit xAI issues occasionally, redeemed under Settings → Usage to clear your current weekly pool once. They do not stack, there is one per account, and they expire — the August 2026 batch lapsed on 12 September.

06 Can I buy more once it runs out?

When the weekly pool is exhausted, wait for its reset, use prepaid credit or upgrade. Optional Auto Top-up and monthly spending caps control additional usage. Since 12 October 2026, The X Subscription shares a weekly usage pool across Cursor and Grok. Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100 and Ultra $200 per month provide base, 4×, 15× and 50× Plus usage.

07 What does "Rate limit reached — upgrade to unlock more" mean?

Your weekly compute pool for the current tier is used up, and xAI is nudging you toward a bigger plan. Settings → Usage shows the percentage and when it resets. If the message mentions peak hours, that is a separate temporary throttle on the free tier that eases off-peak.

08 What are Grok Build's limits on the free tier?

Since 12 October 2026, The X Subscription shares a weekly usage pool across Cursor and Grok. Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100 and Ultra $200 per month provide base, 4×, 15× and 50× Plus usage.

09 Is there a Grok rate-limit checker?

Settings → Usage is the only official one — it shows the percentage used and the reset time. Browser extensions claiming a live counter are reading that same page or guessing. This site tracks the resets and rule changes xAI announces, not your personal counter.

10 Does Grok Bot have its own usage limit?

Since 12 October 2026, The X Subscription shares a weekly usage pool across Cursor and Grok. Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100 and Ultra $200 per month provide base, 4×, 15× and 50× Plus usage. Existing Cursor and SuperGrok subscribers may keep their legacy plans. Legacy Cursor keeps two monthly pools; switching to The X Subscription is optional.
