// MECHANISM DIFF
The window opens on your first request and resets after a fixed duration. Its start follows your own usage, so it differs per account.
Codex · Claude Code · Gemini CLI · Kimi Code · GLM Coding Plan
Resets at a fixed time each week, tied to your account and independent of when you start using it. Set it once and it holds.
Claude Code · Grok · GLM Coding Plan · Cursor
Resets monthly on your billing date. When a month is too short, a month-end billing date falls back to the last day of that month.

// FAQ
01 Codex vs Claude Code: which has more generous limits?
Compare your workload with the limits shown in your account. Codex Pro removes the 5-hour gate; Claude Max keeps it and adds a Fable weekly cap within the overall allowance. Neither plan promises unlimited usage.
02 Which AI coding tools have a 5-hour window?
Codex Plus, Claude Code, Gemini and Kimi retain 5-hour windows. New Cursor and Grok plans share weekly usage; legacy Cursor remains monthly. New Kimi plans have a monthly cap, while legacy Kimi also has a weekly limit.
03 Which tools give free resets most often?
OpenAI, by a wide margin — Codex resets have been announced dozens of times since late 2025, usually tied to milestones, incidents or launches. Anthropic follows with periodic full resets. xAI has issued reset vouchers once. Google, Kimi, GLM and Cursor rarely or never reset outside their normal cycle.
04 Can I save or bank a reset?
Only with Codex. OpenAI sometimes issues "banked" resets you redeem yourself, and they expire after 30 days. xAI's reset vouchers work similarly but have been rare. Everyone else resets on its own schedule with no way to store one.
05 How do I check remaining usage in each tool?
Codex: /status in the CLI, or avatar → Usage. Claude Code: /usage. Gemini CLI: /stats model (session only) or the Google Cloud console. Grok: Settings → Usage. Kimi Code: /usage. GLM: the bigmodel.cn user center. Cursor: Settings → Usage. Each provider page here has the details.
