$ Claude Code changed its usage limit rules on May 19, 2026.

"Extra usage" in Claude is renamed "usage credits". Spend limits, auto-reload settings and any credits already purchased carry over unchanged — the rename reflects that these credits now do more than pay for overage: they also power features like fast mode.
